Chapter 5-

Literal Sense


Oliver goes to his first funeral and decides that he doesn't like the undertaking business. After, all the business, good recognition, and advancement Oliver was receiving, Noah got jealous and decided to tease Oliver. Noah and Charlotte tease Oliver about his mother being dead, Oliver(Like any person would do) attacked Noah. Charlotte, Mrs.Sowerberry, and Noah beat Oliver and locked him in the cell. Noah than runs to tell Mr. Bumble that Oliver tried to kill him for no reason. (He should have) Mr.Bumble tells Mrs. Sowerberry that feeding Oliver meat gives him more spirit in life. Mr. Sowerberry comes home, beats Oliver and again locks him up. The next morning Oliver runs away, on the way an old friend see him and tells him he would never tell. Oliver walks 70 miles to London, in a small town outside of London he collapses in a doorway where Jack comes up to him(someone he doesn't know) Jack buys Oliver lunch and tells him that there is a man that would let him stay at his home for free. (Jacks nickname is "the artful doger") Oliver feels that Jack is not right and that he should leave has soon has he could. That night"the doger" takes Oliver to Fagin the head of the operation to get some sleep. There were other boys in there who were around the same age of "the doger" but all of them were smoking and drinking.For days, Fagin kept Oliver in practicing picking pocketing. Fagin sends Oliver out with the Dodger and Charley to practice his skills. "The Doger" sees a rich man and wants to rob him,Oliver is scared. "The Doger" pick pockets the man and runs while Oliver is still standing there (in a clueless land) gets blamed for what they did. The man catches Oliver instand "the doger" Mr.Brownlow, does not want to press charges, because he thinks he recognizes something in Oliver’s face, but cannot put his finger on it.
